Thankful

Since most of us here at Fractured Saints are big Derek Webb fans, and today being Thanksgiving, I thought it would only be fitting to post a link to this video: [/kml_flashembed] “Thankful” by Caedmon’s Call Happy Thanksgiving!

My review of "Stockholm Syndrome"

Derek Webb’s long-awaited new CD, Stockholm Syndrome, finally came out this past Tuesday. But even before it was released it already stirred controversy with the lead single What Matters More. Not only was it a completely different sound–Derek Webb’s gone techno now?–but after getting away with saying “damn” and “hell,” he finally let one of the Big Dirty Words slip: We can talk and debate until we’re blue in the face About the language and tradition that he’s comin’ to save Meanwhile we sit just like we don’t give a shit About 50,000 people who are dyin’ today. Naturally this made the record company very nervous, so as a compromise Webb agreed to release two versions: a clean version (without...

What it be.. ??

So, I see this and I’m not sure what to make of it. (linked) Is this a rip-off or redemption? Is this Gospel transformation or cultural campaign bait? What’s the motive? I do this with my own music in my head.  I ascribe personal “Christian” significance to songs written with decidedly  non-christian meaning; but is it OK for the pulpit to do it?? Is there a difference between a personal action and pulpit action?  What does it mean if I make a statement opposed to my pastor making the same statement from the pulpit? I can’t put my finger on it. Help. Why do I feel icky about...

Lyrics of the Week – Asleep in the Light by Keith Green

Now I grew up on Keith Green and was amazed when I picked it back up in my late twenties how relevant his stuff still is. The lyrics to the song really make me consider my Christian life every time I hear them. The song is worth a download / listen. Do you see, do you see All the people sinking down Don’t you care, don’t you care Are you gonna let them drown How can you be so numb Not to care if they come You close your eyes And pretend the job’s done “Oh bless me Lord, bless me Lord” You know it’s all I ever hear No one aches, no one hurts No one even sheds one tear But He cries, He weeps, He bleeds And He cares for your needs And you just lay back And keep soaking it in, Oh, can’t you see it’s such a sin? Cause...

American vs. Samaratin

We as Americans are notoriously rich and busy. This busyness causes a complacency towards our fellow man. We would prefer to keep our hands clean and throw a couple of bucks toward a charity to help out those less fortunate. The only problem is that we need those less fortunate and if we never encounter them then we tend to forget our need. We sit in our big nice houses with our 24/7 entertainment and climate control, and forget that we don’t deserve what we have and nothing that we have is ours by our own doing. But wait there I worked my butt off to get where I am today Jack-o. Hmm lets look at something oh yeah. James 1:17 – Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no...
