Innovation
I like innovation. The only magazine ever to really gain my attention through every article for the first time was Popular Science, and to this day it is the only magazine I subscribe to. I love the novelty and creative process of innovation. To that end, when it comes to the Gospel, I think there is still room for innovation. Not that the message changes, but that our approach can and should change in creative and innovative ways that make more sense. For example, take this suggestion: “Odd thoughts for missions trips, sometimes why not instead of 20 people going for 1 week have 2 or three people going for a while then rotating for the next few then the next and instead of a hotel rent a house or apartment near the missionary and have the people...
Radical – the book by David Platt
Has anyone read this book yet? I have read the first chapter as it’s free online if you go to their website HERE. Just scroll down to the bottom, enter your email address, and it gives you a .pdf file of the entire first chapter of the book. Right now, budget issues are just a bit tighter than normal, so I haven’t rushed out to buy this book yet, but it’s on my radar now. This book was suggested to me by a friend, and so I went to look it up and that’s how I came across the website and the first chapter. Incredibly, David Platt is only 32 years old (or so the website says) and a pastor of a mega-church “not too far” away from here (about 1 1/2 hours) just this side of Birmingham. As I read the first chapter I was...

One of the best post I have read on Jesus Needs New PR. the anonymous life (sex wednesday) What the Sex Industry and Church have in common When I was a senior in college my roommate and I decided to visit the World’s Largest Adult Bookstore. Believe it or not, that’s in Nashville. I had never been to any sort of “adult” store before, so I was quite overwhelmed and intrigued and appalled that, for some people, Adult Bookstore shopping was a regular occurrence. As I walked through the front door a woman with 22 earrings dangling from various places on the left side of her cheek said “welcome, guys.” Aw, I thought, it’s just like we’re shopping at Sears, except the greeter looked like a vampire. I was too...
Sex needs new PR
So this week over at Jesus needs new PR, it’s sex week. And Jon over at stuff christians like wrote a fun little post. Check it out. stuff christians like: sex Three Surprising Things I’ve Learned About Sex By Jon Acuff I don’t write a lot about sex on stuffchristianslike.net. (Please insert your own, “that’s because Christians don’t like sex” joke right here.) So when MPT asked me to guest blog during sex week I had no other choice but to draw material from my own sexy life. Therefore, it is my distinct honor to share with you, the readers of Jesus Needs New PR, 1. God is pro sex. I grew up believing that God was surprised and disappointed that sex was fun. That perhaps He created it for strictly functional purposes,...
Is the gospel story reliable?
From Crave Community, a great video posted by Jono Smith. Shot live at Crave Camp 2009, this edited version of the original interview shows Pastor Jono Smith speaking to Evangelist Matt Scheffer about the reliability of the Gospel Story. Can we really believe what is written about Jesus’ life, death and resurrection? ]>
