Obedience
“ from “A Persuasive to a Holy life, From the Happiness That Attends It Both In This World and In the World to Come” by John Ray I used this book as a source recently for a Sunday School lesson on what true happiness is. The author of this old book has a lot to say to modern readers about what mistakes we make about happiness. In essence he argues that true happiness only comes from obedience to God’s will. If you get a chance I urge you take a look at it. You can find an e-version here: http://www.ccel.org/ccel/ray/persuasive.toc.html I find that often it is the older works that I find most convincing when I am wrestling with a theological or practical problem of how to live my life. But I want to know, what books do ya’ll look to (other than the Bible, of course) when seeking to know more about theology or practical matters of faith? What authors do you trust when looking for answers?
