Be Still

P
10 “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

Last week end I went camping with the guys from my church and I realized on my trip that life brings about interesting rotations.

I am now of the age and mindset that I really don’t mind sitting and talking or just being still for the majority of a 4 day period, but with a 10 month old (and 7 nieces and nephews) I realize the irony of it. Those moments are fleeting because kids just don’t like to be still. I feel like its so much easier to think and rest when your being still and I rarely do I do it if ever. I usually find myself being still in front of a TV or with headphones in numbing out, but I don’t know if God counts that toward your being still or resting time.

What are your thoughts? How do you rest? How do you stop running the rat race?

    I know what you mean. I so seldom find time to just be still that I have a hard time staying awake when when I have the opportunity.

    Cx, for me, being still takes practice, like learning a new language even. I do it best when I'm outside near water – like when we were camping. But I'm learning to practice in smaller pieces. I started by driving home without any noise makers on. Now I can spend half a day in utter silence and even enjoy it. Part of that is based on the fact that I am more comfortable with God.

    Either way, rest and stillness are good.
