Resources vs. Results

As I ran at the gym this morning, I noticed advertisers must think 1 of 2 things about those people who are up at 5 in the morning. Either we need a better mattress or we need to get in shape. I have seen my share of workout and diet commercials, but no matter how many I see I know that having the resources doesn’t produce results, only using the resources you have will be of benefit.

Even though I know that is true I still buy things in hope that owning them will produce results. I wonder how many bowflexs and thigh masters are sitting in a closet gathering dust right now. I wonder what percentage of folks look like the guy in the bowflex commercials or have thighs off…..iron? And then there’s the shake weight, I’m sure that flew off the shelves for mothers day… never mind.

I feel the same way as a Christian here in America. I feel like we have the most Christian resources at our disposal between the book stores, tv & radio stations, and even our own music industry. But from what I hear we are also the most stagnant church, the slowest to help those in need, the slowest to love past our areas of comfort. So I guess my question is do we need more Christian resources or do we need less stuff and more Christ?

This is right on. Not too long ago I found myself with a stack of Christian books that I was powering through but I couldn’t remember the last full book of the Bible I read. There are also times I get so full of knowledge but lack the love I need to walk it out like Jesus. I can overcomplicate my faith with too much peripheral stuff when it comes down to just doing it!

P.S. The shake weight reference was just wrong! Hahaha!

I would say the latter.. having missionary friends from around the World that grew up here before being called out, the one common denominator of what they say is we are spoiled. While people in other countries endure things like walking for hours to only arrive at a service where they stand for hours while the minister preaches and then walk home , or share a page from a torn bible with their whole family, here in America we get upset if the church pews aren't soft enough or the pastor preaches more than a 1/2 hour. We ride in our A/c cars, sit in our A/C'd churches on our comfy chairs, ride home again in our A/C'd cars to our A/C'd homes all the while complaining that we didn't like the way sister so and so looked at us. ….. The Word declares why are we worried about what to eat or wear yet that's exactly what we do. Can you believe she wore that? This is the year we are down sizing "stuff" and striving for more Christ. For we have been crucified with Christ, yet we live, but not us but Christ living in us. Having considered everything but a dung heap and preaching Christ and Him crucified..
