Servants

I

Two things struck me during this lesson.

In finding examples of good servants in the bible I looked at the servants of Namaan.  I was trying to give examples from the bible which illustrated that serving each other was a way to serve God.   I don’t think I had realized before what an important part they play in the story.  Basically, they are good servants because they get their master to do something he doesn’t want to do.  They know what is good for him and they are willing to risk his wrath to get him to do it.  I think there is an example there for us.  I am sometimes reluctant to share God’s word with others because I am nervous, or frightened of their response.  However, as a servant of God AND my fellow man I owe it to people to at least attempt to share the gospel.

The second thing that struck me was how good the kids were at answering the questions I asked about being a servant.  Just like us adults, kids know all the right answers.  They know that a good servant is humble.  They know that a good servant puts other’s needs before their own.  They even know that the best way to serve God is to serve those around you, even people who you don’t like.  Each kid could also name a way that they could specifically serve someone else.  Their eyes got wide, however when I told them that during this week they actually had to do the thing they just named. Just like adults, they have the knowledge of what they can do which will please God.  But do they have a heart that pleases God?

Think of a way you can please God this week by serving someone.

Now, go and do it.
