Those #$%#@^ Weeds
So I found myself in a familiar spring-time position of literally cursing the weeds (I reserve the right as they are direct results of the Fall) that I pulled out of my lawn tonight. While I am not the perfect yard guy, I do get some satisfaction out of stewarding my very small piece of creation which is my yard. However, every year I try very hard to avoid getting weeds and every year they are here. I mean I put down all kinds of stuff and yet spring brings every conceivable kind of weed. My mother-in-law says there is something wrong with me as the stuff I put down should be avoiding this situation. But I think that God does this to me. First, it provides an interesting object lesson to my kids. Our son now knows that weeds are the product of Adam sinning in the...
Just thoughts
I was reading Psalms 42 the other night and something hit me. So often, I do not thirst for God in the way the Psalmist writes. It is wonderful and horrible when the Spirit stabs me through the heart. I don’t pray often enough that YOU will be pleased. I seek to convert, but don’t realize that it is only the first step and that we can’t take any of the other steps without you, Lord. I take Your blessings and give thanks, I don’t pass them on. I do not share enough for “the least of these.” I try to change the world through my own hands. By doing that I actually turn away from my Lord. I worship, but do not allow His glory to show through me. I do not forgive. I do not love all the world. I make a pretense...
The Right Comparisons

Abraham the man of faith Moses the lawgiver David, a man after God’s own heart Elijah the prophet Peter the rock Paul the evangelist Heroes of our faith. God’s anointed. Role models we can never live up to. Or so we think. It is profoundly encouraging that the great examples of faith and godliness in the Bible are not really the superhuman spiritual giants we’ve traditionally made them out to be. If they were, few of us would be eligible for God’s service. We just can’t relate to their spiritual stature. Lets take another look at that list. Abraham the liar (Gen 12:13) and the impatient one...
